Photography Portfolios

While I have enjoyed taking photographs from an early age and especially during my foreign travels, it has been only in the last decade that I have become more seriously interested in the technical and artistic aspects of making, rather than snapping, pictures. To me to use the term “making pictures” indicates a conscious awareness that the camera and post-processing software are artistic tools to be used as creatively as possible. A camera “takes” a photo; a photographer “makes” a photo. Photography becomes then a way of creatively encountering the environment to imagine it anew and to evolve one’s creative capacity and develop skills to use the tools of photography as creatively and astutely as possible. The constant evaluation of images is the repetitive practice of the skill of appreciating the world including one’s own work.

What I seek in these web pages is a space for sharing the writing and the explorings related to photography that increasingly engage me. As a career academic, writing has been my go-to form of expression. Impatient with this style I imagine hybrid forms that incorporate both writing and images. I share these fledgling efforts.
